MONROE CREAMERY RECALLS RAW MILK BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK
3/4/25---Monroe Creamery of Monroe, WA is recalling raw fluid milk because it may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria (E. Coli O157:H7). E. coli O157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death.
At this time, Monroe Creamery has not received reports of illness associated with this recall.
Monroe Creamery raw milk bearing expiration date of 3/1/2025 has been recalled. The milk is sold only in ½ gallon containers. Recalled raw milk was sold from the Sultan Red Apple Market. All milk from this recall has already expired.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) discovered that the product was contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Monroe Creamery and WSDA are continuing their investigation into the source of the problem.
Consumers who have purchased Monroe Creamery raw milk between 2/21/25-2/23/25 with expiration date of 3/1/2025 are urged not to drink the milk and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 206-683-8823 during business hours of 9:30AM-6:30PM
Retail raw milk is legal to sell and buy in Washington, but there are serious potential health risks. Consumers should read the warning label on the retail raw milk container carefully and ask their retailer to verify the milk was produced and processed by a WSDA-licensed operation.
